“synchrodestiny is coincidence but it contains a purpose and meaning, and has a direction and intention”
Deepak Chopra
I have been wondering for a while if there truly is something like coincidence with a purpose and a meaning, or is it all just a mere coincidence?
If one coincidence brings you to the next and again to the next? Doesn’t that mean there is some kind of a connection? Is there even something like ‘it was meant to be’?
One thing is certain : in my experience a set back always gives opportunity to something new, something better, something good.
Here is my story.
Road trips are my favorite kind of holidays. Generally I plan the direction (north or south, east or west), the date we leave, but not much more. This time is slightly different : I found a (paper) map in my drawer, and I put post-its on all the interesting spots I would like to see. Without a lot of thinking nor research. We let ourselves be guided by the weather (avoid extreme heat) and crowds (we do not like them), and a couple of post-its.
Turns out that is a hard nut to crack -most places are either hot or crowded-, but we are doing good.
Until we have a flat tyre.
On a national holiday.
In Spain.
Our Belgian travel insurance works perfectly, within 20 minutes the tow guy arrives (on a Sunday!), and he temporarily fixes the tyre and tells us to drive 100 km south, where there is the highest probability to get a new one within 24 hours.
We take his advice and drive into the heat, because with every km we drive south the temperature rises, a lot! And all of a sudden we find ourselves in a place (Valladolid) only 100km away from this other place that was on my to do list, but had been discarded for this trip, being ‘too far’ and ‘way too hot’. There is not much we can do about the ‘too hot’, but 100km isn’t really ‘far’ anymore.
The tow guy was right : within 24 hours our car is fixed and we are off to Salamanca.
Baffled by its beauty, charmed by its excellent food, annoyed by the crowds and struck by its heat : still, it isn’t just ‘worth the detour’ but totally worth the trip.
Thanks to that flat tyre.
But we have lost quite some time with our unexpected detour, and when we get back up north, a heat wave has arrived. We go from 38C in Salamanca to 38C in León, so we look for an escape. That turns out to be a drive north-west, to the Costa da Morta, in Galicia.
An excellent choice.
We are at this beach, called Carnota, it’s wide, it’s white, it’s empty. The sea is turquoise, the sky is blue. It’s 26 degrees. The food is great -at least if you like mariscos- and the people are welcoming. There are no foreign tourists. We spend our time doing long walks on this huge beach, reading a book with the sound of the waves in our ears and getting some sun without feeling the heat.
This must be paradise.
This must be paradise, and I wonder “Why isn’t everybody here?” How could the Galicians keep this such a grand secret?
The things that a flat tyre can lead to, isn’t that amazing? Now is that synchrodestiny or isn’t it? You tell me!
