That’s me, I am a bit of a freak. (not quite like Rick James’s super freak, but you can listen to his while reading this article). 🙂
If you know me, or follow me for a while, you know that I love driving. I love spending time in my car. Very often the so called ‘date with myself’, takes place in my car, on the road to some destination I often invent just to able to drive.
For most people a car is a device that brings you from A to B. Not for me. As I love to drive and spend a lot of time in my car, it must be comfortable, have a good hi-fi with the best speakers, a powerful engine and if possible I like that car to be nice. I make sure it is nice ; I look after it as if it were a baby.
As a consequence I am terrified each time I enter a parking lot with a narrow entrance and a sharp turn, afraid I might damage a rim. And before I finally find a ‘safe’ spot to park I have usually driven around a couple of times just to make sure it’s the best spot -read : the least chance of getting damaged-
You get it.
It’s a bit over the top. I know. But well, what I can I do? It is stronger than myself, and I even though I am OK with the fact that some people don’t take care of their properties, I get furious when they lack respect for mine. Especially with a hit and run!
So I don’t have to paint the picture of what happened yesterday, when my door was – again- damaged. It has been perfect for just over 2 months only, when I had it repaired…. at my own expense as I didn’t know who had done it. This time is different.
I stop the time, cancel my plans, take photos and walk to the police office.
As my experience with the hand of the law is minimal, appart from a speeding ticket now and then, I didn’t know I had to make an appointment, which means I need to go back the tomorrow.
All that time and energy? For a scratch on my door?
Hell yeah!
But that is where the delight starts. After a short wait at the police station, a handsome young officer comes to get me. He’s the one who will be handling my case. He’s not just gorgeous, he is friendly, calm, composed. He looks great in his uniform. It is no punishment to walk to my car for inspection, and spend about an hour in the station while he is writing the report. When I apologize, ‘sorry you have to spend all this time on something silly like this’ he comforts me and says ‘I would be really mad too if it were my car!’. I can’t imagine him mad though. He has these big almond shaped eyes. His dark hair is perfectly coiffed. What a smile!
I do not mind the time, the company is excellent. The topic of conversation could need some improvement. When he says there is a fair chance they get the guy (or woman) who did it, I know that my time wasn’t lost. But even if they don’t find the guy, my anger is vented and gone, and in a good mood with a big smile on my face I drive home.
This day is a good day. Nonetheless!
I almost forgot there is a scratch on my door…
