Have you changed?

Do you ever wonder? Or do you just go about your usual business as if everything remains the same?

The other day, I saw this question, and I realised that yes! I have changed.

When, how and why, you might wonder?

Whatever reason to stand still and reflect I always find fascinating, this time is no different. It is easy to blame it on COVID, or rather, should I thank COVID for the change? Maybe the pandemic didn’t cause the change, but merely speed up the wake up, because that is what I like to call it : a wake up.

I woke up from sleeping and blindly believing what is generally considered right and wrong, and started to study to find out what is right for me instead. I stopped going with the general flow of ‘it is what it is’, to look for solutions to problems that seemed unsolvable and look for answers that no-one could give me. I started to change when I refused to let myself go down in the negative spiral around me, when I refused to be fed by constant negativity. I woke up from the constant feeling of stress of being too busy and having no time for nothing, and feeling as if ‘the end’ was near.

I woke up.

The first thing I did : I stopped following the news.

Yes, you read well. I no longer read, watch or listen to the news. How can you? You might wonder. How can you live not knowing what is happening in Lebanon and Gaza? I assure you, there is always someone who will tell you exactly what you need to know. Me, nor anybody else, is made to go to bed with the problems, the misery and pain of the 8 billion other people in this world. All the trouble in the world isn’t giving me any added value.

So how did you stop following the news, I am asked. Easy! I just delete the news apps from my phone. Unsubscribed to emails. But I went further : I deleted my social media apps and stopped watching Netflix unless there is something on that is really worth my time (hardly ever, lately, to be honest).

These 3 things didn’t only give me freedom, peace and quiet, but they particularly gave me time, lots and lots of time. Time to read. Time to dive from one topic into the next, and endlessly learn new things. Time to get deeper into several subjects, time to become ‘an expert’.

It is absolutely exhilarating, it is fascinating. Not just because I am feeling happier and healthier than I have ever felt in my entire life, but just the fact of knowing and studying is filling me up with joy and satisfaction.

Right now health and well being is my pet peeve. It has been for a while, but I dug so deep into it that I find myself at another level. I have learned so much that I find it annoying, frustrating even, that most people around me are still blind to so many things, that they don’t care about their health and well being in particular, and are knowingly and willingly either damaging and destroying their body with what they eat and (don’t) do, and with this they put their happiness on the line.

Instead they look at me and think I have lost my senses. Maybe I have, but to me it sure feels good!

As I am told that I can’t give people advise when I am not asked, so I keep my mouth shut, but I decided to share some of what I learned here, with the referral to my sources. Because of course, I am no scientist, I am no doctor. I just read, test, and share my experiences. Maybe my frustration towards others will disappear eventually. I will be excessively happy if I can help wake up at least one other person!

Interested in what I learned ?
