Blogging -sharing my views and experiences- is something I have always loved doing. Why on earth did I move to Argentina was a full time job. But those days have long gone. I stopped wondering why I moved and later on I moved back to Belgium, so the theme became totally obsolete. Years later I landed into the quest for delights theme, another fun topic. Even though I still experience loads of delights, being absorbed by work -I have a new job- I can’t seem to find the time to write about them.
Yet here I am. I decided I must make time.
Driving is one of my biggest delights. Listening to music is another. My car doesn’t need a lot of luxury; a beastly engine and the best hi-fi is all I need to be happy. I could probably write about a delight that I experience in my car every day, but I won’t bore you with that.
Today the day was long and tough. I am about to travel, and I have already been away way too much lately. My agenda is full with meetings and to do’s that can’t be postponed, and then the day is toppled with last minute problems that need to be tackled.
I am exhausted.
It’s almost 8 when I finally drive home. My feel-good playlist is on, as loud as my ears can bear, and I am singing my lungs out. It’s a silly song with even sillier lyrics but I just like the sounds and the feel of it. I listen to this playlist so often that I know half of the songs by heart.
Somebody poor me a drink
Somebody bum me a smoke
I’m ’bout to get on a buz,
I’m ‘bout to get on a roll
I am totally relaxed by the time I get home. It’s evening, the sun is already low and casts diffuse light through the trees as I enter my neighbourhood and drive onto my driveway.
Did I see that right? Is that a heron in our pond?
I put the car in reverse. A heron it is, and yes, it is still there! Way too focused on hunting his dinner (hopefully he’s having some of our noisy frogs) to notice me. I take my cell phone, start filming while I open the window of the passenger seat where I have full view on the beast.
Meanwhile Post Malone keeps on singing.
‘Yeah I’ve been breaking my back
Just keepin’ up with the Joneses
y’all know what I mean
y’all know how it goes’.
As I imagined the visitor gets stirred by the loud song now blurring out of the car. He spreads his huge wings and flies away. He is tall an skinny when standing in the pond, but transfers into a huge bird with massive wings when he flies up. He is about 5 meter away from my car.
The video is perfect. I love it. And if this isn’t a delightful way to come home, well I don’t know what is! But then I realise that I have just missed a chance of getting rid of those very noisy frogs, I missed a chance on having a quiet night. The little monsters are still alive and kicking.
Listen to the song here. I love the song, I love his voice, but I regret looking it up to add it to this post and I now I wish I could unsee his looks 🤩. This image is AI generated and this is not my pond nor my garden.
